Edge Design Studio was engaged to collaborate with the client Benjamin May, to complete a refurbishment of the iconic Manly Wharf Hotel situated on the East Esplanade of Manly Wharf on Sydney’s Northern beaches. The aim of the refurbishment was to update and enrich the design, instating more of a beachy, summer-time atmosphere whilst still retaining its original 1950s Palm Beach concept.
Bespoke furniture for the hotel including tables and bar stools were personally designed by Mandy Edge, giving the hotel a look that will be uniquely it’s own.
A new furniture and colour scheme was developed introducing bright citrus oranges, yellows and aqua’s in the furniture and bold oversized palm and floral prints in the upholstery.
Siding was applied to bar fronts and surrounds, making way for a surf hut style bar housed within the already existing stylised stonework on the walls.
Quirky elements were introduced by the client like hand painted surf boards and animated illustrations on menu boards to create an over all look that encapsulates Sydney summer whilst still referencing the classic beach aesthetics of the 1950s.
